If you are looking for a beautiful walk, combined with good food and numerous stopping points for a cold pint, then this is my go-to hike! Park up at Dell Quay and follow the water’s edge, watching boats and kayakers sailing along the water. Enjoy the wildlife, too; birds, bees, crabs and even the odd seal if you are super lucky.
This is also a great walk for children, with stones to throw in the sea, small wooden bridges and plenty of boats and even tractors to watch, but it isn’t necessarily pushchair friendly, so be prepared for some piggy-back moments.
As you hit Chichester marina, you can enjoy waiting and watching the lock open to allow walkers and cyclists to cross, lots of boats coming and going and plenty of fish to see whilst you wait. You then arrive at the fabulous Boat House Cafe, a beautiful spot to enjoy some food and a drink.
Carry on walking past the houseboats, which I always find myself dreaming of living in, one day. Keep heading through Birdham towards Itchenor. After plenty of boats, water and fresh sea air you will come across the much-loved Ship Inn. We highly recommend stopping here for a hearty meal to get your strength up for the return trip back to the car.
